The OCD Family

Ok, so you all know that Geoff and I are a bit on the uptight side of life. Many of you are also aware of my obsessive compulsive tendencies. Well, Geoff and I have both recently reached new heights (depths?) of our characters.

The other night I realized that the backlight on my alarm clock was not working. The kids often play with things that have fun buttons and sounds. A few weeks ago someone turned the volume on my alarm down all the way so I didn't wake up in time to go to the gym. Anyway, I couldn't fix the backlight and neither could Geoff. Cheap electronics are no match for a 1 year old and a 4 year old. They manage to break lots of things under my attentive supervision. Back to the story. I always need to know what time it is when I wake up. When I travel, I usually end up sleeping with my watch on if I'm not sleeping by a clock. I need to know what time it is so when my alarm goes off and I hit snooze, I know how much time I have left. I stewed about my problem for a bit as I tried to go to sleep. No sleep arrived so I asked Geoff to borrow his. He needed to get up early the next morning also so he could leave for the NYC when I returned from the gym. We fiddled around arranging the clocks and then settled back down to sleep.

A few minutes later I heard Geoff tapping on his Wii ipod. He kept tapping and tapping... Finally I asked Geoff what he was doing and he sheepishly replied that he was answering an email from his boss's boss. By now it was past 11:30. What in the "H E double hockey sticks" does he need to be responding to his boss's boss at that hour? I hate it when he checks email right before dinner. We've had a few discussions about that also.

Pray for our children.
